Orange Velvet Sofa “Wave” by G. Offredi

for Saporiti, Italy 1970s

Designed in 1974 by Giovanni Offredi this 2-seater sofa “Wave” in originial upholstery from the 70s is still one of the classic of the Saporiti Italia collection. The dynamic design for this sofa is very comfortable and functional at the same time. The original upholstery with different kind of stripes in various shades of orange and its extra large proportions reflects the era of radical design. Visible steel frame, wavy cushion and upholstered covers create at the same time a minimal design paired with a great lightness.
The upholstery is mounted on the frame with a plug-in system.

Giovanni Offredi – born 1927, Milan – died 2007) was a prominent Italian furniture and product designer. The earliest furniture design work known by G. Offredi consists of exemplary furnishings which comine a surprisingly minimal simplicitiy and elegance.

In 1970 Giovanni Offredi formalized a partnership with Sergio Saporiti, the owner of the furniture maker and shop Saporiti. This partnership would be long and successfull and resulted in many furniture designs of distinct precision. The Wave sofa represents the peak of the Saporiti international success. Its purity of lines and its extra-large proportions, result in an incredible attraction for Saporiti’s international markets.
