Dining Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames

A set of four Mid-Century Modern orange coloured fiberglass shell chairs with chrome H base in good vintage condition designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. The H metal base is a 3rd generation of these shell chairs, the first two had the X base but this shape was then replaced on order to reduce cost and improve durability. The orange shell has its original finish with the typical fiberglass structure in good vintage condition. The chairs are labeld at the bottom with an original Herman Miller sticker.

Charles and Ray Eames built their single-shell chair design on the principle of universality. Two biomorphic shell shapes welcome bodies of all shapes and sizes. A choice of bases addresses most seating needs—dining, working, even rocking a baby to sleep.

In 1949, Charles and Ray designed and built their own home in Pacific Palisades, California, as part of the Case Study House Program sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine. Their design and innovative use of materials made the House a mecca for architects and designers from both near and far. Today, it is considered one of the most important post-war residences anywhere in the world.
The world’s first molded fiberglass chairs, designed by Charles and Ray Eames, are introduced by the famous US company Herman Miller Inc. which nowadays is still one of the leading manufacturers of office furniture and furniture systems, second only to Steelcase, Inc. in sales worldwide.
